Texto-base / Base Text
Should Schools Start Later in the Morning?
Many students feel tired during the first classes of the day, and some experts believe the solution is simple: schools should start later. This is a strong argument, and it is supported by solid evidence.
First, sleep scientists explain that teenagers' bodies naturally want to sleep later and wake up later, because of changes in their biological clock during adolescence. This is not just laziness — it is biology.
Second, a study from Stanford University found that teenagers who start school later sleep almost one hour more per night, on average. More sleep is connected to better concentration, better mood, and higher grades.
Finally, schools in Seattle, USA, changed their start time from 7:50 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and reported that students' attendance improved and tardiness dropped significantly in the following year.
For these reasons, many educators argue that starting school later is not just more comfortable — it is a smarter, evidence-based decision that could help millions of students learn better.
1)According to the text, what is the author's main argument?
a)Teenagers are lazy and do not want to study in the morning.
b)Schools should start later because there is evidence that this benefits students.
c)Sleep is not important for teenagers' school performance.
d)Schools in Seattle have the best education system in the world.

Gabarito da atividade de argument and evidence
Atividade 1: b) Schools should start later because there is evidence that this benefits students.
Atividade 2: a) argument b) evidence c) fact
Atividade 3: 1-C (Argument → statement of point of view) | 2-B (Evidence → information used to support) | 3-A (Opinion → personal belief) | 4-D (Fact → can be proven true)
Atividade 4: a) F b) V c) F d) V e) V
Atividade 7: c) "A study from Stanford University found that students slept almost one hour more."
